It was inaugurated on 6 July in Saint-Germain-en-Laye. Line 13 of the tram is now in service, serving 7 cities through 12 stations to Saint-Cyr-l’École and welcomes at least 21,000 passengers a day.

It took four years to carry out all the works, such as the creation of stations, the laying of tracks, or even the installation of signage around the main roads. In addition, over the course of many months, numerous tests were carried out on the 11 trains on the line.

“Users can reach Montparnasse station more easily, but also the business center of Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines and, on the other hand, the business district of La Défense”

“We are witnessing a real revolution today, said Pierre Bédier, chairman of the Yvelines departmental council. Other projects are on the way, such as the RER Eole and the 18 ”line. For his part, the mayor of Saint-Germain-en-Laye, Arnaud Péricard, recalled that this new line was “an opportunity for the territory”.

Users now benefit from additional connections with the L, N and U railway lines, and also with the RER A and C. “Users can thus reach Montparnasse station more easily, but also Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines and on the other hand, the business district of La Défense ”, points out Richard Delepierre, vice president of the department and delegate for mobility and transport.

An extension project towards Achères

The 19 km between Saint-Cyr-l’École and Saint-Germain-en-Laye, passing through several stations including Versailles, can now be covered in half an hour, compared to more than an hour before. The cost of building this link amounts to 306 million euros, financed by the state, the department of Yvelines (up to 92 million euros) and the Ile-de-France region. A second phase has already started and the first works could start in 2023. The extension will extend the line to Achères.
