Lizzo wins an Emmy for Watch Out For The Big Grrrls
The Emmys, the most important award in the USA for television and streaming, were presented in Los Angeles. In addition to “Successione” and “Ted Lasso”, pop star Lizzo was also honored for her talent show “Watch Out For The Big Grrrls”. In it, Lizzo seeks dancers for her world tour. The singer cried in tears at the award: “As a child, I just wanted to see someone in the media who looked like me. Fat like me, black like me, beautiful like me.” If she could go back in time, she would say to little Lizzo: you will see this person, but you will be this person. Her Emmy delight was largely devoted to the Big Grrls of her show. Their stories aren’t that unique, but fat women just don’t get the platform, Lizzo says. Their stories should be told more.
Pilot Project: Basic Art Income for Irish Artists
The Irish government pays 2,000 artists basic artistic income. In the pilot project, musicians, actors, authors and dancers, among others, will receive 1,300 euros per month for the next three years. They were drawn from a pool of 9,000 candidates, regardless of the individual’s financial situation. The basic artistic income is paid out on a prorated basis every week. In addition, artists can earn additional money and are entitled to social benefits. All they have to do is participate in a study. This is how the success of the basic artistic income must be evaluated. The pilot project is part of the “COVID Recovery Plan” in Ireland. This should allow the cultural scene to recover from the pandemic of recent years. The project was initiated by a task force led by the Irish Minister of Culture, Catherine Martin. She says that basic art income has the potential to fundamentally change the way art and creativity are supported. You would also recognize how important the arts sector is to people.
