Dubai, United Arab Emirates (CNN) – There are many misconceptions about hemorrhoids, which can cause anxiety for many people without any basis.
The Ministry of Health of Oman, through its official account on the “Instagram” website, pointed out some of these misconceptions related to hemorrhoids and showed their truth.
- Chili pepper causes hemorrhoids
the truth: Eating cayenne pepper does not cause hemorrhoids, but it can cause irritation in people who have fissures in the anal area.
- Hemorrhoids can only be treated with surgery
the truth: The pain, swelling, and mild inflammation of hemorrhoids can often be treated with home remedies. When symptoms persist for more than a week, it is important to see a doctor.
Your doctor can use a simple procedure for treating hemorrhoids before resorting to surgery.
- Constipation causes hemorrhoids, but not diarrhea
the truth: Chronic constipation and chronic diarrhea are equally dangerous.
Pain and inflammation can often be relieved with home treatments for hemorrhoids, such as:
- take a hot bath
- Clean the anus after defecation by gently tapping with wet toilet paper.
- Use ice packs to reduce swelling
- Use a pain reliever for pain relief
The Omani Ministry of Health has made it clear that when you are not benefiting from home remedies for hemorrhoids, you need to see a doctor.
In turn, it can offer other treatments, such as:
A chemical is injected into the hemorrhoid which numbs the pain, stops the bleeding and reduces the size of the hemorrhoids.
A very tight rubber band is placed around the hemorrhoid to cut off the blood supply, thus causing it to fall out.
- Thrombolytic therapy:
Using infrared or laser. This leads to the hardening of the internal hemorrhoids, and consequently to their wilting and prolapse.
- Surgical removal of hemorrhoids:
The surgeon removes the excess tissue that is causing the bleeding
