This fall, everyone 12 and older will receive an invitation for a repeat, the central government writes on its website. The first letters will be delivered today and people will be able to take a photo in one of the GGD offices by appointment starting next Monday (September 19th).
RIVM reports that healthcare personnel in contact with patients are invited by their employer. “GPs will send out invitations from early October to under 60s with an increased risk of severe Covid-19.” The RIVM reports that the 12 to 59-year-old group without medical risk will not receive an invitation letter. That group can give an injection, but it is next to the group of seniors or people at increased risk. “That information then comes, for example, from the media.”

These groups are invited first:
- Healthcare professionals who have contact with patients or clients
- People at higher risk of getting sick, i.e .:
- over 60 years old
- People ages 12 to 59 who are invited each year for the flu shot
- Residents of health care institutions
- People with Down syndrome
The government has a message for this group of people on the website: “Repeated jab is very important to you because you have a higher risk of getting seriously ill with corona. This is because your immune system is functioning less well. You have adequate protection against disease. serious and hospitalization “.

Some of these people have already been vaccinated four times. They may also go to the GGD again for a repeat injection. Virologist Gorben Pijlman of the University of Wageningen also advises people to give themselves an injection. “A new injection in the fall will protect you for a few months very well from serious infections and illnesses. But for many it now seems to be over.”
After the vulnerable group, ‘anyone aged 12 who wants to can get a repeat as a precaution,’ writes the government on the website. “Sufficiently renewed vaccines have been provided to offer everyone from 12 years of age a repeat injection.”
Requirements
There are two conditions for repeating the injection: the last vaccination must have occurred more than three months ago and you must have had the “basic series” (two doses of BioNTech / Pfizer, Moderna or Novavax or one of Janssen). Anyone who does not have this is not suitable for a repeat injection.
The latter because the vaccine administered now is slightly different from the previous one. The vaccines are all from BioNTech / Pfizer or Moderna. They have been modified so that, in addition to the previous variants, they also protect against the omikron variant of the virus.
People who were infected with the corona virus less than three months ago are also advised not to get vaccinated yet. This is still possible after the three month period has elapsed.

But why should you try now that there are relatively few new infections and even the omikron variant seems less dangerous than the previous variants? It is the thinking of many people and even the RIVM sees that the willingness to vaccinate is decreasing. One group of people indicated in a study that they only wanted a new vaccine if there was also a new type of vaccine. At the time of research, that shot had not yet been approved. Now it is.
“And that has added value,” said vaccinologist Ben van der Zeijst of Leiden University Medical Center (LUMC). previously against RTL News. “With that vaccine you are not only protected against the variants it contains, but also against other variants and perhaps even those that are yet to come. Because they often don’t differ much.”
