The EC wants to broaden its powers to prevent disruption in supply chains / art

The plan foresees that, in emergencies, the EU can impose order fulfillment on companies as a priority. If companies refuse to comply with the Brussels requirements, they can face hefty fines.

Furthermore, the EC does not want to allow bloc member states to attempt to limit the single market during crises, for example by restricting the export of certain goods.

Therefore, Brussels wants to avoid a shortage of essential goods, as experienced during the Covid-19 coronavirus pandemic and after Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

Opponents of the idea accuse the EC of wanting to violate its powers.
