The Minister of the Interior and Municipalities in the provisional government, Bassam Mawlawi, announced that he “suggested reducing the year of detention in Lebanon to 6 months”, noting that “the President of Parliament will put this proposal to the vote after discussing the budget “.
In an interview with MTV, Mawlawi stressed that “the goal is to address the problem of overcrowding in prisons,” stressing that the ministry’s point of view is complete and patriotic.
He continued: “We are continuing to carry out our difficult tasks in the prison administration and are trying to address the problems of medical care, hospitalization and nutrition. The budget is sufficient for just one month.”
He stressed: “Electricity is never cut off from prisons and we investigate every death that occurs inside any prison and all emergency cases are transferred to the hospital.”
