Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The government’s plan to remove fuel oil (BBM) with an octane rating (Research octane number/ RON) will be done gradually. The first phase, starting with RON 88, is Premium petrol which will be officially abolished on January 1, 2023.
The chairman of the VII DPR Commission Sugeng Suparwoto said that the implementation of an ecological fuel in itself already has a basic rule. This was stated by the Regulation of the Ministry of the Environment and Forests (Permen LHK) number 20 of 2017 relating to the application of the standard Euro 4 fuel equivalent to the Pertamax Turbo sold by PT Pertamina (Persero).
Therefore, after the abolition of RON 88 gasoline, the government will gradually continue to phase out RON 90, also known as Pertalite fuel, even up to RON 92 or equivalent to Pertamax. Even so, it has not been specified when this type of BBM will be abolished.

“So if today RON 88 was gradually removed and Pertalite RON 90 and also in the LHK Permen, Pertamax was even removed and increased again by Euro 4, which is RON 95 or 98,” Sugeng told CNBC Indonesia Energy Corner. Monday (12/12) ./ 9/2022).
Therefore, Sugeng suggested that the subsidized fuel should have a high quality octane type, not the current one. Since the higher the quality of the fuel, the better it is for the environment.
“Ideally, the highest RON is subsidized so that we can get environmentally friendly fuel and maintain people’s purchasing power. Our fuel has a direct effect on our various environments,” Sugeng said.
Previously, the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources had ensured that low-octane fuel, which is less than Ron 90, would be phased out on January 1, 2023. In this way, fuels with less than RON 90 , including Premium RON 88 belonging to Pertamina petrol stations and Revvo 89 belonging to Vivo petrol stations, may no longer be on the market.
However, Pertalite RON 90 fuel will still be on the market. Since this type of fuel has met the standards and quality (specifications).
“Not removed (Pertalite),” Mirza told CNBC Indonesia on Wednesday (7/9/2022).
Mirza said that the product sold by the Vivo service stations, namely the Revvo 89, actually met the characteristics of the same Ron 88. Therefore, the product will be included in the next BBM list that will be removed after Premium.
At least, PT Vivo Energi Indonesia has until the end of 2022 to sell BBM Revvo 89 products. The reason is that as of January 1, 2023, the government will ban the sale of BBMs with an octane rating below Ron 90.
“As of January 1, 2023, so that petrol type 88 will not be marketed domestically from that date,” said Mirza.
PT Vivo Energi Indonesia previously admitted that it would not sell Ron 89 (BBM) fuel oil, aka Revvo 89. This was following the government’s decision to ban the sale of low-octane fuel at service stations in the near future .
Management said the government decided to abolish the sale of low-octane fuel on December 31, 2022. Therefore, in order to comply with the policy, the company plans to run out of Revvo 89 shares first.
“To comply with government policies, PT Vivo Energy Indonesia has taken the necessary steps to exhaust our Revvo 89 inventory by the end of this year,” the management said in a written statement quoted by CNBC Indonesia on Tuesday (09 / 06/2022).
