Max Verstappen sets the best time in the final practice of the 2022 Italian Grand Prix ahead of Charles Leclerc and Sergio Pérez
In the third round, the drivers and teams fine-tuned the settings for qualifying and the race. But there have also been big changes. Nyck de Vries will replace Alex Albon for the rest of the weekend, who has appendicitis and appears to be undergoing surgery. De Vries won Formula 2 in 2019 and became Formula E champion with Mercedes in the 2020/2021 season. This year he has already tested the Mercedes, Williams and Aston Martin cars yesterday in the first free practice sessions.
De Vries didn’t drive late. The mechanics had to adapt the car to the seat and proportions. He ended up finishing 14th behind team-mate Nicholas Latifi, with whom he lost less than 1 tenth of a second.
Technical clutch problems had to be resolved by the Haas team in Mick Schumacher’s car before practice. It is not an easy weekend for the German driver. In the first test he had to leave the car to Giovinazzi, in the second he had to retire.
The Haas mechanics finally managed to put the car together and Schumacher hit the track a few minutes before the end. He managed to drive 8 rounds in total.
The best time was set by Max Verstappen, but he is one of the many riders facing penalties on Sunday.
