Debate on the flight of the government without crown masks
The flight of Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) and Economy Minister Robert Habeck (Verdi) to Canada came under criticism because the more than 80 passengers on board did not have to wear crown masks. Normally, masks are mandatory for all passengers taking off or landing in Germany. The ARD photos and video now showed Habeck and nearby reporters without masks on the plane. Former CDU leader Armin Laschet tweeted that reporters and government members were “ignoring the (meaningless, but enforceable) laws.” He himself was once criticized for a photo showing him without a mask on a plane. According to the federal government, flying the government plane to Canada did not violate crown rules: “No mask required on Air Force flights.” All participants must have submitted a PCR test prior to travel. “This ensures a high level of protection,” a government spokesperson said. Lufthansa also spoke on Twitter. The airline stressed that passengers in normal air traffic could not free themselves from wearing a mask with a PCR test.

Bovenschulte criticizes the withdrawal of the authorities and humanitarian organizations
According to Bremen Mayor Andreas Bovenschulte (SPD), the crown pandemic has increased loneliness in society and continues to have an impact. Despite the easing, isolation and contact restrictions have not yet been fully restored to pre-crown levels, Bovenschulte said in a panel discussion Monday evening. Authorities and humanitarian organizations have also withdrawn their services and offers, and in some cases they still are. Currently they are still “behind what we once had,” criticized Bovenschulte and called for this development to be reversed. There is still “a lot to do in the area”. According to Joachim Barloschky, spokesman for the Bremen action group “Human Right to Housing”, the homeless in particular have suffered from the restrictions of the pandemic and therefore from isolation and loneliness. Their meeting places have been closed, consultations have been interrupted. To remain in public, Barloschky called for reception spaces from which no one would be expelled, more street workers and, above all, affordable housing for those affected.

Hamburg: probably more night take-offs and landings of aircraft than before Corona
Europe-wide air traffic problems lead to a significant increase in take-offs and landings in Hamburg during the current night ban. From the beginning of the year to August 8, 501 flights have already been recorded between 11pm and midnight, the responsible environmental authority said at the request of the German news agency. Although the airport is currently only 70% used due to Corona, the number is likely to rise well above the 2019 pre-Corona year value by the end of the year. At that time, 678 flights were recorded between 11pm and midnight throughout the year. In the years Corona 2020 and 2021 there were 65 and 116 flights respectively. Airlines have cited technical problems, ground handling delays, weather conditions, air traffic control problems and staff shortages as the most common reasons for take-offs and landings outside of normal flight operations. While airlines can take off and land until midnight without special permission and can report the reasons for this later, the aircraft’s noise protection officer must approve every flight between midnight and 6:00 am in advance. This year it happened 18 times in mid-August, a value that was also almost as high as for all of 2019.

The Robert Koch Institute (RKI) reported 1,431 new infections in Hamburg today. The seven-day incidence, or the number of new infections per 100,000 inhabitants within a week, is 226.7. Only Thuringia, Berlin and Baden-Württemberg currently record lower values.

Lower Saxony: The incidence increases slightly to 328.4
The Robert Koch Institute (RKI) reported 7,500 new infections in Lower Saxony today. The seven-day incidence, or the number of new infections per 100,000 inhabitants in a week, is 328.4 and has therefore increased minimally – on Monday the incidence value was 323.1.
