Kuděrmetová – Krejčíková 6: 3, 6: 3, Krejčíková continues to fight, it was not enough for the Russian opponent. Both Kvitová and Martincová advance

A year ago, Krejčíková reached the quarter-finals in Cincinnati, where she was stopped by then world number one Ashleigh Bartyová of Australia. This season, however, the 26-year-old Czech is not doing well with health problems.

In the spring, she had a three-month hiatus due to an elbow injury and, while defending her title at the Paris Grand Slam, she was also eliminated in the first round.

In the next match, Kuděrmětová was supposed to play the winner of the match between Karolína Muchová and former Romanian world number one Simona Halepová, the fresh Toronto winner. However, Muchová withdrew from the tournament at the last minute due to a right wrist injury and Russian Anastasia Potapova entered the main competition instead.

28th-ranked player Kvitová won 6: 7, 7: 6, 6: 3 and avenged the tournament defeat on the mainland in Madrid in April against Teichmann, who is ranked seven places better. The two-time Wimbledon champion she found herself on the brink of elimination in the shortened game of the second set, trailing 5-6 after returning to the net and facing a match point. The 32-year-old Czech, however, overturned the scores with the help of two excellent serves and after going to the net during the opponent’s serve, she used a set point to bring the 8: 6. In the third set, Kvitová completed the turnaround with two successful breaks.

After being eliminated in the first round in Toronto, Kvitová took her first win in preparation for the US Open. In the second round, the quarter-finals of last year’s Cincinnati tournament will face the winner of today’s duel between Olympic champion Belinda Bencic from Switzerland and Romanian Sorana Cirstea.

Martincová’s health bothers her

At the start of the main competition, Martincová completed a victorious qualifying battle with Spain’s Nuria Párrizasová and won 6: 7, 6: 4, 6: 3. The Czech tennis player, who played with duct tape under her right knee, was treated several times during the match and after a converted match point she hit the net with visible pain. In the second round, she is expected to start today against world duo Anett Kontaveitová from Estonia.

Today, in the 1st round, Karolína Plíšková will face former world number 1 against national veteran Venus Williams, and successful qualifier Marie Bouzková, on the other hand, will face the representative of the rising American generation, the new number one of the world of double Cori Gauff.
