The Legend of Tianding
–
Released in November 2021 and available on both PC and Switch, The Legend of Tianding sets its frame on the streets of Taipei in the early 20th century during an era still little portrayed in video games. In this side-scrolling action title, you play as Liao Tianding, legend and vigilante from Taipei who is hotly sought after by the Japanese colonial authorities. Your objective: To bring justice and help the poorest. The game takes on the aesthetics of a traditional Chinese comic book and the rendering is frankly pretty. The adventure broadly tasks you with stringing together lightning-fast kung fu techniques against a slew of bad guys and you also get to explore the Dadaocheng district as it was in 1900.
Unfolded : Camellia Tales
–
Unfolded: Camellia Tales is a point’n click that recounts the massacres of Jeju Island in 1948. You follow the journey of little Herman, a boy who lived through the most tragic moments in history. It will be about meeting the islanders and talking to your family, your friends, and the survivors who are hiding in the cave. Here we have a simple game, pleasant to browse for its superb artistic direction and its moving writing despite sometimes too laborious mechanics and small inconsistencies. The game also has the usefulness of making you discover a historical part of South Korea.
If On A Winter’s Night, Four Travelers
–
Published last year by Laura Hunt and Thomas Möhring and acclaimed by the public, If On A Winter’s Night, Four Travelers is a completely free point n’click (to be found on Steam or itch.io) whose title refers to the novel by Italo Calvino, If On A Winter’s Night, A Traveller. The game follows the journey of four characters who evolve in the late 1920s. From his luxurious hotel room, Carlo impatiently awaits the arrival of his secret lover Patrick. Lady Winterbourne, newly widowed, receives letters at her mansion from new claimants to her fortune. Dr. Jordan Samuels, constantly belittled by his colleagues, takes refuge in the occult sciences. Finally, Laylah, tired of her routine, goes against her bosses’ orders.
Golf Club Wasteland
–
Golf Club: Wasteland is a clean and frankly pretty title in which earthlings have fled the land they have devastated to settle on Mars. However, a few lucky survivors return to earth to hit a few balls and chain birdies. Golf Club Wasteland relies heavily on its atmosphere and its fantastic soundtrack. An experience rated 16/20 with us: “Golf Club: Wasteland can be seen as a kind of clever outlet, a highly relaxing experience carried by a particular post-apocalyptic atmosphere and efficient minimalist gameplay .”
Overboard!
–
Overboard! is an investigation game in which you are the culprit. After throwing your husband overboard, you have to blame someone else or find other possibilities in a limited time. Developed by the creators of 80 Days and Heaven’s Vault, the title invites you to be cunning and leave your moods aside so that you are never unmasked. To do this, you will have to make the right choices, monitor everyone’s habits, cover your tracks and get closer to the right people. A fun game perfect for short sessions.
The Darkside Detective : A Fumble in the Dark
–
The Darkside Detective: A Fumble in the Dark is a point’n’click (yes, again) investigation game set in Twin Lakes, the 34th most haunted city in America. Inspector McQueen must solve 6 cases and put his life in danger to solve the macabre mysteries that haunt the city. This new adventure, which follows a first episode full of humor, will take you to thrilling places, from the carnival to the retirement home, where it will always be a question of repelling and defeating the Dark Side.
Wytchwood
–
Developed and published by Alientrap (Gunhead), Wytchwood is a game that puts crafting in the spotlight during a fantastic adventure. You play as an old witch who has taken up residence in the village forest. The heroine has a routine of exploring the woods, collecting a whole bunch of magical ingredients between “poisonous mushrooms, newt eyes and bottled fear ” and to create evil enchantments. She also reserves the right to judge a wide range of inhabitants and capricious creatures all very inspired by classic tales. This is the opportunity to impose her moral of the story. You will also sometimes have to use your logic to solve a handful of puzzles in the forest.
Potion Craft
–
Still in the “witchcraft” spirit, Potion Craft is an alchemy simulator released in September 2021 with a very charming artistic direction. Developed by niceplay games, the game provides you with all the necessary tools and ingredients so that you can freely concoct your little potions. From your personal shop, you will be in charge of experimenting, developing brand new recipes and attracting a few potential customers. So every day, new visitors will come looking for a solution to their problem. And your creations will always have consequences on them. It will therefore be necessary to take care to master the techniques of alchemy. Your ingredients can be purchased from traveling vendors. Finally, note that it will always be wise to make a few ties of friendship with notables.
