The sea along the Southern Black Sea coast has already claimed five lives this summer. A few days ago, a woman drowned on the beach in Primorsko, and on the same day, a man was unable to get out of the water in “Sunny Beach”. At the end of last week, three people died in the sea in Ahtopol, Nova TV reported.
August is the month when the sea changes and the dead excitement appears. Since the beginning of the week, the stormy wind has created a lot of work for the water rescuers.
“In the event of a dead wave, people should not go into the sea. If they have already done so, however, they should go out diagonally – i.e. diagonally, so that the sea does not pull them straight in,” said Vasil Alexiev, an instructor from the BCK.
Nikolay Dimitrov, the concessionaire of “Kraymorie” beach, noted that the water is seemingly calm during the dead wave. “The wave is small, without height, but when you enter the sea, you feel a very strong pull of sand under your feet and you start to sink into it. You have to go ashore immediately,” he added.
Lifeguards are adamant that before entering the water on an unfamiliar beach, it is good to seek information from them about the specifics of the place. And if it still comes to a situation where the sea pulls us, the rules are clear – the most important thing is self-control. Rescuers appeal to call for help if necessary.
