Artistic research and quest for the other for fourteen young people

At the initiative of Dans6T, seven young people from the neighborhoods of Tarbes and seven young people from Cauterets met for a week, at the heart of artistic creation and a fruitful encounter.

Each year, the Tarbes dance school Dans6T organizes “special holiday camps which combine artistic practice and living together”. This summer, 14 young people aged 13 to 17 met in Cauterets (Kauraïcha, Lilou, Lili, Noémie, Nina, Clémence, Léa, Lina, Elisa, Valo, Miléna, Ibrahim, Louis, Pria), including seven came from the village and seven from the districts of Laubadère, Bel-Air and Solazur in Tarbes. These young people were supervised by Céline, Léo, Guillermo and Mathilde, and also had the teachers of the dance school around them.

During this course, the young people were able to discover the Pyrenees during activities and hikes. They were very well received by the gîte l’Escapade chez Yannick.

“Moving and Powerful”

The reason for this course was to introduce dance, of all styles (contemporary, hip-hop, etc.), to young people who had little or no experience of it. The trainees therefore had to get used to a different diet, as well as a certain discipline and training essential for this kind of spectacle. Thus, following numerous rehearsals, they were able to present their show, on the theme of migrations and movement, in Gavarnie as part of the “Variantes”. “A theme, says Bouziane Bouteldja, president of the association, very political and which allowed young people to think about what their body says, but also about the relationship with others. Everyone was super proud to receive applause. It was very moving, very powerful.”

But the challenge was also to allow exchange and sharing between these young people who did not know each other, who do not have the same education or the same culture. “The journey and the encounter really made it possible to break down prejudices, barriers, that’s what’s strong because everyone wins. It’s a type of project that all artists should join. It’s the demonstration that while society is communitarising, closing in, if we create bridges, opposite worlds can meet and exchange views to understand each other. It’s almost of public utility, in the face of the rejection of the other! ” says the teacher.

The performances (three at the Gavanie festival, and one in Lourdes) therefore all went wonderfully. This great experience pushes the choreographers and organizers to think about new performances, one in Cauterets, and the other at Solazur in Tarbes. “It is a great pride to have gone to the end of this course, the aim of which is to popularize the art and open up to others. Moreover, the people of Tarbes are already expected to ski at Cauterets this winter” concludes the choreographer.

The dance school and the participants would like to thank the PRE of Tarbes, the rural centers and youth spaces of Cauterets, the prefecture of the Hautes-Pyrénées, the Occitanie region, the DRJSC 65, the towns of Cauterets, Gavarnie and Lourdes, as well as the Gavarnie festival, for having contributed to this project.
