Feyenoord has secured the group stage of the Europa League. The team from Rotterdam will know who the opponents will be on Friday, August 26, because then the draw is on the program. The team of trainer Arne Slot made a big hit in the Conference League last season in the coefficient rankings and therefore now has a chance to be classified in Pot 1.
Feyenoord has delivered a top performance in Europe by reaching the final. In total, 24,000 points were achieved by the stadium club in the 2021/2022 season. That is more than superpowers such as Juventus, PSG, Atlético Madrid, Manchester United and FC Barcelona. The English top club Liverpool was the leader with 33,000 points. Real Madrid follows with 30,000 points.
In total, Feyenoord currently has 44,000 points. UEFA uses the last five seasons to form a ranking. We find Feyenoord in place 42. Before the successful Conference League campaign, the club was still around 95th place in Europe. In order to rise again next year, a minimum of 6000 points must be achieved. The 2017/2018 season will then disappear and that was the most successful season until last year, in terms of points.
Europa League
AS Roma, Manchester United, Arsenal, Lazio Roma and Sporting Braga have already secured Pot 1 in the group stage of the Europa League for the new season. If Feyenoord wants to avoid these teams, it must hope for favorable results elsewhere on the fields. In total, there are still three places to divide in Pot 1, because the loser of Benfica – Dynamo Kiev (both clubs have more points than Feyenoord) secures the Europa League, there are still two places left for Feyenoord.
Which competitions should I follow?
In total, five or possibly six games are important for Feyenoord. Olympiakos Piraeus will first play a third qualifying round of the Europa League on Thursday, when it beats Slovan Bratislava, it will meet Apollon Limassol. The Greeks have to leave, because they are two places higher in the ranking. Rangers FC must advance to the group stage of the Champions League. Red Star Belgrade, Dinamo Zagreb and FC Copenhagen also have more points than Feyenoord and so it is important that they continue in the Champions League.
When Olympiakos Piraeus makes it to the Europa League group stage, four teams in bold below must reach the Champions League group stage. If the Greeks are eliminated it will be three. The chances for Feyenoord are therefore minimal, but still present.
