The opening match of the football World Cup in Qatar will be brought forward by one day to Sunday, November 20th. A source close to the organizers confirmed to AFP news agency that FIFA and the Organizing Committee have agreed on the change.
This means that the game between home team Qatar and Ecuador will once again be the first game of the tournament. According to the original game plan, the Senegal-Netherlands game should have taken place on November 21st and the official opening game later in the evening.
The hosts have played the opening game at World Cups since 2006, before that the defending champions had usually played first.
