A driver accidentally backed up his SUV and hit his three children and three adults yesterday in the Bronx, also hitting a barber shop window, reported the New York police.

All the victims were treated at the hospital. The driver was also taken to a hospital. Five of those struck suffered serious injuries, an FDNY official said, according to Pix11.

The man who was driving accidentally backed up by accelerating instead of applying the brake at East 163rd Street and Prospect Avenue, in the Woodstock neighborhood, yesterday around 12:20 p.m., crashing into a barber shop and six pedestrians, including their three children.

All the minors were taken to Harlem Hospital and the adults to Lincoln Hospital, police said. “It was literally an accident,” summed up an NYPD spokeswoman, quoted by New York Post.

The Department of Buildings (DOB) sent inspectors to assess the beauty salon’s structural stability. Inspectors determined the building sustained minor nonstructural damage from the crash, including a broken front window, and no further action was ordered, according to a DOB spokesperson.

Luis Hernández Pujol said his 67-year-old mother was one of the victims of the accident. He rushed to the scene after hearing what happened. The lady broke her leg and was also cut by glass that fell on her.

In addition to gun violencetraffic accidents are another big challenge for the new mayor Eric Adams, after a dismal legacy from his predecessor, Bill De Blasio. New York City had already experienced in April a 35% increase in traffic accidents so far this year, NYPD stated. At the end of that month there was a tragic streak in NYC at an average of one person killed by a run over every day.
