On Tuesday evening, around 50 people took part in a protest march organized by the Belarusian diaspora in Riga, marking the second anniversary of the falsified Belarusian presidential election.

Most of the protesters carried the white-red-white flags of free Belarus and were dressed in the colors of the flag, LETA agency observed. Protesters also carry a flag of free Belarus about four meters long.

The march started at the Palace of Light and will end at the Freedom Monument, where an action dedicated to political prisoners and refugees is planned.

Riga Mayor Mārtiņš Staķis (PP) and members of the Saeima also take part in the march.

No conflicts occurred during the march.

It has already been reported that according to Ilva Evertes, representative of the Belarusian refugee initiative group, since the protests of August 2020, which became the beginning of an unprecedented wave of violence in Belarus, when Alexander Lukashenko’s regime suppressed peaceful protesters, several dozen citizens of Belarus have sought asylum in Latvia.

Riga City Council, in solidarity with the opponents of the Belarusian regime, hung the flag of free Belarus on Tuesday, and in the evening the facade of the Town Hall will be illuminated in white, red and white.
