Heat Intensifies in New York with Rain and Improvement on the Way – NBC New York (47)

NEW YORK – The New York tri-state area will remain under a weather watch through Tuesday night.

A heat advisory remains in effect for most of our region until 8:00 pm, with the possibility of thunderstorms by Tuesday afternoon and evening.

This as a cold front approaches our area. The Authority on Weather (LAEET) forecasts that heat indices will approach and exceed 100 degrees this afternoon for several hours before the cold front passes which will bring the possibility of heavy rains and even some isolated severe storms.

The front will remain stationary off our coast with more rain and the possibility of more storms on Wednesday as we begin to feel relief from the extreme heat.

By Friday we will begin to enjoy pleasant temperatures with low humidity and lots of sun, especially for this weekend and the great Dominican Parade in New York.

Maximum: 94 degrees. Mostly sunny with possible severe thunderstorms in the afternoon and evening with lows in the 70s.

Wednesday

Maximum: 86 degrees. Partly sunny with possible rain and thunderstorms.

Thursday

Maximum: 84 degrees. Possible storms in the morning hours.

Friday

Maximum: 82 degrees. Mainly sunny

Saturday

Maximum: 82 degrees. Mainly sunny

TIPS FOR SAVING ELECTRICITY DURING THE HEAT

The utility company also had some tips for saving energy:

  • Set air conditioners to 78 degrees
  • Use timers to set cooling systems to come on no more than half an hour before you return home
  • Do not use air conditioning when no one is at home.
  • Reduce indoor lighting
  • Unplug electronics you don’t use
