Intimacy coordinators are ruining it for us, says Game of Thrones’ Sean Bean

He is said to be held back by the coordinators during erotic scenes and spoils his spontaneous reactions.
The actor complained that they kept telling him “do this, put your hands there”.

“The natural way lovers behave is destroyed by someone who turns it into a technical exercise,” says Sean Bean. Much better, according to him, was the filming of Lady Chatterly’s Lover in the nineties, when he starred with Joely Richardson.

“Lady Chatterly was spontaneous. It was a joy, we had great chemistry and we knew what we were doing was unusual. Because she was married, I was married, but we followed the story. We tried to portray truthfully what DH Lawrence wrote.”

Intimacy coordinators have sprung up in the wake of the MeToo wave. They are supposed to prevent inappropriate behavior on the set by actors and directors. It’s not so common in Europe, but in the US they gradually introduced them on almost all shoots, if there is even a hint of erotica in the script.

Some directors claim that the coordinators only delay, others have no problem with them.
