the queen to “cancelled its traditional welcome at Balmoral Castle” and will instead organize a “small private event” amid growing concerns over his health, the Daily Mail reveals this morning.
The 96-year-old monarch arrived at her summer residence at the end of July where she had planned to attend the event. But a few hours ago, she made the decision not to participate.
The event was canceled this Sunday and replaced by a smaller gathering. A small ceremony took place outside the castle gates without the Queen.
A royal source told the Mirror: “The traditional welcome to Balmoral is normally cemented in the Queen’s calendar and it’s something Her Majesty really appreciates. It’s being able to greet the inhabitants who travel to see it. It is a bitter disappointment that the ceremony is not taking place in its traditional form.”
Other sources said this last-minute change was “a sign of what was to come in the future” amid Her Majesty’s episodic mobility issues.
But Buckingham Palace played down concerns about his health, saying instead the private event was “in accordance with the adaptation of Her Majesty’s timetable for her comfort”.
