Gabby Petito – The family is asking for DKK 500 million

The family of Gabby Petito is suing the police in Moab, Utah, for negligence that resulted in the 22-year-old’s death last year. They are asking for 50 million dollars, or around 500 million kroner.

In the lawsuit, police officers “Palmer”, “Pratt” and Daniel Robbins are named. Ten other anonymous officers are also mentioned, according to the report CBS News.

It was last September that Petito was found dead at a park in the state of Wyoming. The 22-year-old had been on a trip with her boyfriend Brian Laundrie when she was found.

Just a few weeks before Petito was found, she had spoken to several Moab police officers after having a loud argument with her boyfriend.

Lawyers for Petito’s family claim the officers “failed in their duty to protect Gabby”.

Stopped by the police

Petito and his girlfriend were last seen together in Grand Teton during the trip together by car across the United States.

On August 12, they were stopped by the police near Moab in Utah after a loud argument. The police video from the incident shows how upset Petito is and tells how the argument has escalated.

The police concluded that Petito had been the aggressive one. They also decided to separate the couple for one night, but no one was reported.

Admitted the murder

The disappearance and murder of Gabby Petito last autumn made big headlines all over the world.

The boyfriend was long considered the main suspect. After the trip with Petito, he returned home alone. When investigators set their sights on Laundrie, he disappeared.

In October, his parents found an item belonging to him in a nature reserve near their home. Laundrie’s body was later found, and investigators concluded that he had taken his own life.

In January, the FBI released information that he actually admitted to the murder in a diary entry
