Djokovic and Gignac, opposite reactions to the vaccine

The comparison that emerged between tennis player Novak Djokovic and soccer player Andre Pierre Gignac in the case of Covid vaccines is far from being a reality.

When it became known that the Tigres striker would not travel to the United States to participate in the All-Star Game between Liga MX and MLS, many media did not resist comparing the case with that of the Serbian tennis player.

The truth is that both have revealed that they are anti-vaccines, therefore they have not been inoculated against Covid-19 and this has brought various consequences to both.

The difference in the case lies in how each of these athletes has dealt with this situation, which has caused Gignac not to be as involved in controversy as Djokovic.

And it is that while the Frenchman did not accept to travel to the United States knowing that every foreigner who tries to enter this country must be vaccinated, Djokovic has opposed the rules of each country he has tried to enter without being vaccinated, he was even deported at the beginning of year of Australia.

But let’s go by parts, in the case of the soccer player, the French player accepted in his own way the rules of the US government to enter without being vaccinated and to excuse himself he said that it was for personal reasons and thus not make so much controversy.

When it became known that it was due to the vaccine, he released a simple statement in which he explained that he did not get vaccinated because of his religious beliefs and that was the end of it, people accepted it and nothing happened.

In the case of Djokovic, he has tried to go over the policies of each country he has tried to enter to play a tournament, we saw him in Australia at the beginning of the year, from where he was deported for this same situation and even caused problems between the countries involved.

The Serbian wanted to do the same in Canada to play the Masters 1000 in Montreal, but this country has already warned him that he will not be able to enter its territory until he is vaccinated.

With his position, the former number one in the world has created a great division in tennis when he should be an example and a symbol of public responsibility for the influence he has worldwide, like any successful athlete.

In addition to divisionism, Djokovic has been harmed in sports because by not playing tournaments in countries where they are not allowed to enter, he has lost many points for the ranking, which caused him to fall from the top, to seventh place, and will continue falling down.

In short, two very different attitudes from two influential athletes worldwide who have declared themselves anti-vaccines.

On the one hand, Gignac’s respect for the rules of a country and a decorous exit avoiding controversy, and on the other Djokovic’s confrontation and selfishness wanting to go above all norms.

Anyway…
