A highly anticipated device from Apple, the iPhone 14 could be delayed beyond the scheduled release date. This could happen due to the heightened tension between Taiwan and China. But what does a tension between two Asian countries have to do with an American company like Apple?
Recently, Speaker of the United States House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi paid a shocking visit to Taiwan. This raised many concerns about the tension between China and Taiwan. As I asked, what does this have to do with the release of the iPhone?
As you may already know, Apple is one of the major business partners of Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC). As a chipset manufacturer, they are responsible for manufacturing the bionic chips used in Iphones. After manufacturing the chips, they are shipped to Pegatron in China where the Iphones are assembled.
Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan tightened things up even worse. Due to his visit to Taiwan, the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) has implemented a new policy. This policy prohibits the mention of “Taiwan” or “Republic of China” in any shipping document.
How it could affect the iPhone 14 launch
With these regulations in place, this means that any hardware already shipped from TSMC to Pegatron could return to Taiwan. Since most of these materials shipped from Taiwan to China bear the inscription “Taiwan” or “Republic of China”. They must all return to Taiwan.
What could have prompted the CCP to implement this policy? This could mainly be associated with the fact that the vice president of Pegatron and senior executives of TSMC have been seen with Pelosi.
How Apple plans to avoid the iPhone 14 delay
According to reports, Apple has already instructed Taiwanese partners to begin removing all markings made in Taiwan or the Republic of China from hardware that bears such markings.
This also explains why Apple decided to manufacture part of the iPhone 14 series in India for the very first time. This will help Apple reduce the delay. The iPhone 14 series launch event is just around the corner and they need to move fast.
