Northern Arizona University runner Alyssa Colbert finished second with the US 4×100m team at the 2022 World Championships in Athletics U-20 in Cali, Columbia on Friday.
The American team finished with a final time of 43.28 seconds, trailing the Jamaican team by 0.69 seconds. Colbert, who was an alternate for the team, competed in the tie and turned the anchor around. In the qualifying round, Team USA won their playoffs by more than a second, posting a season-best time of 43.66.
Colbert will return as a sophomore in the spring for the indoor and outdoor athletic seasons. She came off a strong freshman campaign during which she won Big Sky Student of the Year awards in both the indoor and outdoor seasons, as well as the most valuable female entry in the conference during indoor. Colbert set school and conference records in both the 60-meter indoor run and the 100-meter outdoor run.

The Lumberjacks will face the Arizona Wildcats in an exhibition game on Sunday.
Northern Arizona will kick off their seven-game home run at Lumberjack Stadium, with the game scheduled to kick off at 1 p.m.
“We look forward to continuing to develop our team, this week is another step forward in that direction,” Lumberjacks coach Kylie Lu said. “Our players are free to apply their techniques to our principles of play, and it’s exciting to see our team chemistry develop from day to day.”
Northern Arizona will bring back 19 players from last season and welcome 15 newcomers to its 2022 roster. The Lumberjacks’ returning stat leaders are Maddy Schaeffer, graduate student Michael Johnson and sophomore Natalie Manso.
Schaeffer sits atop the Big Sky Conference return points leader and is tied for second with 12 points.
He started 14 of 18 games last season, scoring four goals and providing four assists, making 36 shots and logging 976 total minutes.
As Johnson enters his final year of eligibility, he looks to continue the offensive success he found last season with the Lumberjacks. After transferring from North Carolina State University, Johnson started in 16 games for the Lumberjacks, scoring three goals, including one to send the game into overtime at Sacramento State and the winner at Portland State.
Manzo found herself in the main goalkeeping position in her first year and quickly showed her skills at the net. He was in 16 games and played in all 19 games, making successful saves a total of 89 times and scoring four shots.
The Lumberjacks and Wildcats last met on the field on August 27, 2021, in Tucson. Arizona won 2-1.
