Arkady Dvorkovich, former deputy prime minister of Russia from 2012 to 2018, under the command of Vladimir Putin, was re-elected president of the International Chess Federation (FIDE), with the opposition of the Ukrainian master Andrii Baryshpolets, who ran after the election. Russia’s invasion of Ukraine on 24 February.
The election took place in India, with 179 federations voting for it, of which 157 voted for Dvorkovich, and only 16 for Baryshpolets, five abstained and one vote was declared invalid.
Arkady Dvorkovich is reelected for a second term as President of the International Chess Federation, with 157 votes against 16.
