The most worrying scenario involves a massive land, sea and air strike to complete the invasion within two days which is the time it will take for the West to respond.
Fears of invasion were heightened after China surrounded Taiwan with lots of military equipment taking part in threatening war games.
Analysts say the drills are meant as a show of force to the United States – but also to weaken Taiwan’s defense power and test the West’s resolve.
Whether the US-led ally will rush to Taiwan’s aid – and how soon – is said to be a key consideration for strategists in Beijing.
The four possible scenarios under discussion include a planned missile strike and land grabbing that halts the full invasion.
This will add pressure on Taiwan and test whether US President Joe Biden really wants to go to war after his pledge to defend the island.
“And if China does decide to take Taiwan, it could aim to complete the 48-hour blitz that has the West scrambling to respond,” a diplomatic source told The Sunday Telegraph. The SunSunday (7/8/2022).
