7 Indonesian Representatives Enter the Featured List

A total of seven representatives of Indonesia are included in the list of featured 2022 Badminton World Championship in Japan, this August 22-28. Men’s doubles sector the most.

This is the list informed by the Badminton World Federation (BWF) on its official website.

Starting from the men’s singles sector, the name Anthony Sinisuka Ginting and Jonathan Christie into the top 10 of the featured list. Anthony is seeded sixth, while Jonathan is seventh.

Then from the men’s doubles sector, there is Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo/Marcus Fernaldi Gideon in the first position followed by Hendra Setiawan/Mohammad Ahsan occupying the third seeded list.

Fajar Alfian/Muhammad Rian Ardianto and Bagas Maulana/Muhammad Shohibul Fikri are on the fifth and 15th seeded lists, respectively.

One other representative who is included in the leading list from the mixed doubles sector is Rinov Rivaldi/Phita Haningtyas Mentari. They are seeded 14th. While in the women’s doubles and women’s singles sector, Indonesia does not have superior players.

Out of a total of 47 National Olympic Committees (NOC), the number that participated came from five zones, namely Africa, Asia, Europe, Oceania, and Pan Am.

Indonesia, which is included in the Asian zone, has passed 16 representatives, as well as being the third largest country after India, and Japan as the host. The country which is famous for Bollywood films sent 17 representatives, while the Team of the Land of the Rising Sun sent 19 representatives.

In this year’s World Championship, Indonesia relied on the men’s doubles to win the title. The last time, the men’s doubles won the title in 2019 through Hendra Setiawan/Mohammad Ahsan.

Meanwhile, at the 2020 World Championship, the championship was abolished, then held again the following year.

However, PBSI decided to withdraw its entire squad due to concerns about the new variant of the COVID-19 virus. Even so, Indonesia is still listed as the second country that dominates the title, besides China.

China is listed as the most dominant country with 67 gold medals. While Indonesia, 23 gold medals, followed by Denmark and Korea. Collected 11 and 10 gold medals, respectively.
