The mystery of the German man nicknamed “The Gentleman” is slowly being solved

PERTH, KOMPAS.com – Perth scientists have investigated the mystery of a decades-old German man whose body was found floating in the North Sea.

Reported Guardianusing new forensic techniques, the scientist revealed that he may have spent most of his life in Australia.

The man was nicknamed “The Gentleman” by investigators in 1994 after his body was found by police off the coast of Helgoland, a German archipelago, with a casted leg.

He earned the nickname “The Gentleman” for his classy attire: a wool tie, British shoes, French trousers, and a long-sleeved blue shirt.

This case has baffled German police for 28 years.

But criminologists and forensic scientists from Murdoch University may have helped unravel the mystery after they ran a new test.

They found the man had spent most of his life in Australia. Investigators in the 1990s determined he was 45 to 50 years old.

The announcement marks the last day of Australia’s National Week of the Disappeared on Saturday (6/8/2022).

The scientists made the discovery by performing isotope ratio analysis of The Gentleman’s bones.

Researchers from overseas universities were also recently able to obtain a DNA profile of the man.
