Instagram now allows avatars in the profile picture

Would you rather use avatars instead of a photo to present yourself on social media? Then we have good news for you, because you can now use your virtual self as your profile picture on Instagram.

Avatars have been present on Facebook for a long time, for example the meta platform is currently testing a new way of presenting the avatars in the cover photo on Facebook. And numerous avatar features will also be available on Instagram in the future – probably also so that users are already prepared for the metaverse.

Avatars are becoming more and more relevant for Instagram and Co

Instagram users have recently been able to use their personal avatar for their profile picture instead of a photo.

The social media expert Ahmed Ghanam tweeted this and also provided a screenshot showing the setting of the “Use Avatar” function.

The alignment and interlocking of the major social platforms is progressing, not only in the area of video and podcasts, but also in the use of avatars or emoji. For example, Twitter is working on allowing users to upload Bitmojis. With this, avatars and stickers from Snapchat could be integrated – also as a profile picture. TikTok has also introduced its own avatars. And WhatsApp is also currently developing avatars for video calls.

In a test, OnlineMarketing.de was not yet able to access Instagram’s avatar profile picture feature. If you can already test the function, please let us know in the comments.
