Taiwan’s top missile official found dead in hotel

A high-ranking official involved in missile production Taiwan found dead in a hotel on Saturday (6/8). This happened amid the heating up of Taiwan’s relations with China China who were conducting large-scale military exercises around the self-governing island.

Reported from the news agency AFPSaturday (6/8/2022), the institute belonging to the Taiwanese military where the man worked said that the official died of heart problems.

The official, Ouyang Li-hsing, is vice president of the National Chung-Shan Institute of Science and Technology. Taiwanese media Central News Agency (CNA) reported that he was traveling to the south of the island on business.

In a statement posted on its website, the agency confirmed Ouyang was found unconscious at a hotel in Hengchun, Pingtung County on Saturday morning local time.

It was stated that the results of the forensic examination found that the cause of death was heart problems.

CNA reported that Ouyang took up his post earlier this year and was tasked with overseeing “the production of various types of missiles”.

His death occurred while Beijing was carrying out massive military exercises around Taiwan. Authority Taiwan said the exercise was aimed at practicing the blockade and invasion of the island after the visit of the Speaker of the House of Representatives United States of America Nancy Pelosi angered the Chinese government.

According to Chinese state media, the military China flew several missiles directly over the main island of Taiwan in the exercise. Even on Saturday (6/8), the Taiwanese military observed “several” Chinese warplanes and warships operating in the Taiwan Strait.
