At the beginning of August, while for the students the back to school is still far away, the workers are busy on the construction site of the future Simone Veil middle school of Scaleslocated in the district of New Brossard. It is scheduled to open in September 2022. It will primarily welcome sixth-grade students. The other levels will enter the establishment during the following school year. The new college will be fully operational, with its four levels, at the start of the 2025-2026 school year.
“This new college was a necessity for the city of Chelles. College students from Pierre Weczerka followed their lessons in prefabs. This could only be temporary and it is obviously not a long-term solution. This new college will eventually relieve congestion in several establishments, particularly Pierre Weczerka,” explains Xavier Vanderbise, Vice-President of the Department, in charge of colleges.
Between 160 and 180 students planned
This new college, with an area of 6,500 m2, will accommodate between 160 and 180 students. With some full-time teachers in the establishment, and others, such as music or visual arts teachers, who will also carry out assignments in other colleges.
“It is never easy to find an ideal site for the construction of a new school, but here we are very close to it. Even if school buses will be put in place, the majority of students will be able to get there on foot. The other advantage, and not the least, is that the future school is close to all the sports structures,” adds Xavier Vanderbise.
A driveway has also been built to allow the circulation of school buses.
There is less than a month left before the future college opens its doors to the public, it will also be one of the colleges most rooted in biodiversity in the department.
