The Paxlovid pill is an alternative to treat Covid-19, but it does not replace the application of vaccines against SARS-CoV-2, instead they expect some 100,000 doses to arrive in the state, said the secretary of the State Health Directorate from Guanajuato, Daniel Alberto Diaz Martinez.
“Paxlovid is an alternative but the best is the vaccine (…) this drug has an efficacy that does not go beyond 70 percent. So that people do not get confused, it is better to be vaccinated”, he mentioned.

He explained that said medicine will be supplied to people with vulnerable health and high risk of complications, he recalled that at the time Tamiflu emerged, an antiviral against influenza in which when symptoms were presented and applied in the first 48 or 72 hours there was a cure, however, at an advanced stage it no longer had the same effectiveness.
They do not know distribution
The Secretary announced that the federation so far has not told them how the oral treatment will be distributed or how many doses would arrive in the state of Guanajuato, however, they expect around 100,000 because Guanajuato is the sixth most populous federal entity.
“There are 300,000 treatments, if it were the same population in the 32 states, we would have almost 100,000, since we are the sixth most populous federal entity, I think that they should be receiving at least that amount of doses, although the federation is going to bring its distribution box” the secretary finished.
The Federal Commission for the Protection against Sanitary Risks (Cofepris) announced through a statement that it authorized a drug that combines nirmatrelvir and ritonavir, two components of Paxlovid work together to reduce hospitalization and mortality rates by up to 88%.
Similarly, Cofepris made an international call to remind the population that this treatment does not replace vaccines against Covid-19 and that it should not be used without medical indication.
