2. After 21 Years, Testimony of ExxonMobil Victims in Aceh Read in US Courts

For the first time after 21 years of legal proceedings, the Washington DC Court, United States of America released a document revealing the testimonies of 11 Acehnese, Indonesian victims. They claim to have experienced human rights violations by Indonesian military personnel hired by the US oil and gas company, ExxonMobil.

As reported Nation World News, Thursday, August 4, 2022, Judge Royce C. Lambert issued an 85-page memorandum containing testimony from the victims last Tuesday. Most witnesses rejected ExxonMobil’s defense of the company’s alleged human rights abuses.

The 11 villagers from Aceh Province stated that they and their family members were tortured, sexually assaulted, raped and beaten in and around the ExxonMobil oil and gas plant located in the city of Lhoksukon during the late 1990s and early 2000s.
