A road drama occurred on Thursday, June 9 just before noon, in Montauban. Two elderly pedestrians were crossing Avenue du Père-Léonid-Chrol, a busy thoroughfare in the Mémo district, when they were hit by a passenger car. A very violent shock.
When first responders arrived, both victims were in cardiac arrest. Unfortunately, one of them, a 67-year-old woman living in Montauban, died on the spot. The other, aged 80, was treated medically. She was able to be revived by the Smur 82 team called to the scene, but her condition was deemed too unstable to allow her transfer to the Toulouse University Hospital. She was therefore evacuated in a very serious condition, in a VSAV of the firefighters, on the hospital center of Montauban.
According to our information, the two women, who had just done some shopping in a neighborhood supermarket, were crossing the pedestrian crossing located in front of the new health center, near the solidarity pole bus stop when they were hit. by a Volkswagen Polo car, which was traveling in the direction of Pont-de-Chaume/centre-ville.
The driver, an 88-year-old woman, would not have seen them cross. The investigation entrusted to the Montauban police station, under the authority of the prosecution, will have to establish precisely the circumstances of this terrible accident which took place in front of numerous witnesses. Testimonies that would obviously be valuable for the Montalban police.
About fifteen firefighters and a medical team from Smur de Montauban were mobilized for this intervention. During the rescue operations, the police secured the scene, cutting off traffic until 1:20 p.m. on avenue du Père-Léonid-Chrol.
More information to come.
