Versus / Sol de América suffers until the last moment, but advances in the Copa Paraguay

Cup of Paraguay

4 Ago 19:25

Sol de América was about to be the second First Division team eliminated in the round of 32 of the Paraguay Cup, but Fernando de la Mora did not take advantage of his opportunities and the “Danzarín” made them pay dearly.

It was the Solense team that began winning the game with a goal scored by Rodrigo Rojas at 17. But at 36, Fernando de la Mora tied it with a goal from Cristopher Chávez.

The procedure was even, with both teams creating clear situations to convert, but they had to resort to a penalty shootout to define the winner.

And in the shots from the 12 steps, Fernando had the magnificent opportunity to win it, since Sol de América had wasted his second penalty, kicked by Adelio Zárate. While the red team converted all, but missed the fifth penalty, by Ricardo Quiñónez extending the definition to “kill-kill”.

There, Sol again missed his first penalty (kicked by Ricardo Garay) and Fernando could have won it, but again he missed the decisive shot by Aníbal Gómez and the next time, Pablo Guiñazú’s team did not forgive.

Finally, Sol de América got the ticket to the next phase and is still in the race. They will face Nacional in the round of 16, which has just eliminated Sport Colombia.

Sport Colonial, which is in the first C of Paraguayan soccer, will have a historic day today Thursday when facing Olimpia for the Paraguay Cup, in Para Uno.

But in the last hours an unusual and alarming event occurred, which resulted in the resignation of a coach. Roberto Romero resigned from office because he had been receiving threats from the fans for days, according to what he denounced.

The main disagreement goes through the assembly of the team, which bothered a group of fans a lot, so a tense atmosphere was generated in the previous one. The issue exploded when the list of concentrates to play against Franjeado was announced and the DT had no choice but to resign for his safety.

The vice president of the institution, Carlos González, explained the situation on Versus Radio on 970 AM. “We have analyzed with a group of players from the squad, in order to restore a little calm to the atmosphere before the game and not to go in irritated, angry, this was decided. Aldo Espínola will direct” acknowledged the manager.

Likewise Fabio Noceda, captain of Colonial, acknowledged on 780 AM that he received an order from above to assemble the team together with Espínola, the new DT. Craziness!
