Flight of green wood for Montpellier airport. In a tweet, his communication department praises the opportunity to go “take the fresh air” in the capital with a wing stroke this summer. Three local environmental associations are rising up and denouncing “green cynicism”.
One of Montpellier airport’s advertising publications made the members of the “Emergency Landing” collective jump, as well as the local representatives of Greenpeace and Alternatiba.
Indeed, in a tweet, the airport’s communication department offers to “pmake Paris cool during the summer”, suggestion which angered the Montpellier collective.
Burning kerosene to escape the heat wave due to climate change, it had to be thought about in terms of cynicism and climate irresponsibility.
Collective Let’s land urgently.
The link on Tweeter refers to a press release dated July 4, 2022 and which begins like this:
“If the crowds of tourists and the sometimes crazy temperatures can heat up Paris at the height of summer, there are many cross roads to discover the capital in an unusual way and keep cool“. This is followed by a description of the different possibilities for cooling off once you arrive in the capital, such as going for a swim at Paris Plage or going to the French cinematheque se make a canvas.
At the end of the press release, the airport specifies that Air France connects Montpellier to Roissy four times a day, without forgetting the low-cost companies which serve “Orly up to 4 times a day“.
In response to this tweet, critics fuse: “Are you climatosceptic or completely irresponsible? Or maybe both?” request Montpellier Breathe, citizen movement to call on local elected officials to take air quality into account in their programs.
For its part, the local group Greenpeace from Le Mans wonders if this is not a joke out of the Gorafi, while another subscriber to the social network is angry: “Take the cool in Paris”, in the midst of heat waves linked to climate change, favored by GHG emissions, while a train journey is possible in 3 hours”.
For Stuart Page, spokesperson for Landing Emergency, this communication argument from Montpellier airport is as absurd as it is indecent: “The press release evokes the misdeeds of over-tourism in Paris and proposes to send even more people there, just to go for a walk!”
Reached by telephone, Emmanuel Brehmer claims to have opened his door more than once to local environmental associations with whom he has sometimes discussed at length.
There is no intention of cynicism on our part, but this communication may be clumsy.

The chairman of the management board of Montpellier airport also points out that local economic development cannot exist without air links with the capital and that more than one and a half million people from Hérault will take the plane to Marseille, for lack of sufficient offers on the spot.
