Motorbike. “We need paid channels”, Johann Zarco and MotoGP are not ready to be broadcast for free

Watching sports for free on television is increasingly rare. Even more so when you like motor sports, like MotoGP. Thus, in Europe, the championship is broadcast on free channels only in Belgium, Switzerland and Germany. In France, only the Grand Prix de France is, on C8because it is one of the protected sporting events.

In an interview with the Spanish site Motociclismo, the boss of Dorna (which organizes the championship), Carmelo Ezpeleta assured that the trend is not ready to be reversed for reasons of big money.

“I would love to see (MotoGP) back on free channels, give me the money I spend on the championship and you’ll see it immediately on free-to-air channels,” he explained in comments reported by Motosport.com. But: “For the financial balance of the championship – in the three categories but especially in MotoGP, where the main financial partner of the private sector is the championship – we need pay channels. That’s all “.

Ezpeleta elaborates: “The sums that the broadcasters pay are essential for what we do with the teams, and it is fundamental to have a championship such as the one we have. […] To have these interesting races, the economic support we give them is essential, and to have this support, it is necessary to have paid channels, as for all major competitions. »

In France, Canal+ has signed for the broadcast of MotoGP until 2029. And therefore for the British Grand Prix which marks the return of racing this weekend after the summer break.
