As inflation continues to rise and commodity prices become less affordable for buyers, there are reports that many people in New York are resorting to stealing food and other essentials.

The city’s pharmacies are taking a bit more extreme measures by increasing their security measures to deal with the increase in thefts.

For example, Spam meat cans, which cost $3.99 for a 12-ounce can, are now encased in anti-theft plastic bins. This was done by a Duane Reade store in Manhattan.

Cans of Celebrity-brand ham, which retails for $3.49, were also locked in anti-theft bins, according to a customer who tweeted an image of the product.

Other products New York stores are putting under lock and key are toothpaste, soaps and juices, The New York Post reported.

Some people say that locking up these products is insulting and is only stolen by people who really need them, since they don’t have enough to eat.

Employees at the Duane Reade store said robberies have increased in the last two years and it is estimated that there are at least four robberies on each night shift..

It should be noted that, although inflation continues to rise, President Biden has said that the country is not in a recession even though the economy has already contracted for two quarters in a row.
