Enstone –
Oscar Piastri will make his debut in Formula 1 2023 together Alpine. The young man from Australia filled the seat that would be left by Fernando Alonso who moved to Aston Martin starting next season.
Piastri, 21, who won Formula 2 last year, graduated from the Alpine academy and is being employed as the French factory’s test driver during F1 2022. Next season, he will be promoted to partner Esteban Ocon.
“Oscar is a bright and rare talent. We are proud to be able to educate and support him to get through the difficult path at the junior formula level,” said Alpine boss Otmar Szafnauer as quoted by the official F1 website.

“Through the collaboration over the last four years, we have seen him develop and mature, transforming into drivers who are more than ready to take on Formula 1.”
“Together, we believe this duo (with Ocon) will provide the continuity we need to achieve our long-term goal of competing for victory in every race and the title at the end of the season,” said Szafnauer.
Piastri’s announcement on Tuesday (2/8/2022) night WIB occurred a day after Alonso was announced to move to Aston Martin, as well as surprising many parties. The two-time world champion replaces Sebastian Vettel, who retires at the end of this season.
Alonso moved to Aston Martin because he wanted the certainty of a contract extension of more than a year, while Alpine did not guarantee it. Piastri, who was planned to be ‘loaned’ to another team next season, was promoted more quickly.
