Latvian artist and musician Waterflower (real name) Sabīne Moore has released a new and unusual single – an eco-futuristic mushroom-music song “Mycelium (Step By Step)”.
The creation of Sabine Moore’s song “Mycelium (Step By Step)” involved biodata obtained from Latvian forest chanterelles, and then this data was converted into musical information using a special tool – “plantwave”. How it happens in reality remains to be guessed, but the song with an electronic vibe is very peculiar, and its video version is even more so.
Sabine herself speaks about this project as follows: “This time, I recorded the song and filmed the video completely “in one unit” – it was not planned, but somehow it happened. And it turned out pretty cool – I think so. The song is made from the bio data of mushrooms and mycelium found in the wild, but arranged, lyrically inspired by the mutual accessibility of people through the Internet. The song’s visual identity and music video are inspired by the sounds produced by a ‘mushroom musical instrument’ that sounds a bit like a 1990s modem internet access dial.” The unusual multimedia song creation process was possible thanks to the support of the AKKA/LAA authors’ scholarship.
It should be reminded that last year’s Waterflower album “Balta Gaisma” was nominated for two 2021 music recording annual awards “Zelta Mikrofons” in the categories “Alternative or experimental music album” and “Best album design”. Waterflower often goes on foreign concert tours, where it can be found performing both in art galleries and “underground” clubs.
