REUTLINGEN. Corona had given the Reutlingen open-air cinema a longer season last year – fourteen days had become almost four weeks in order to be able to compensate for the reduced seating capacity from 600 to 180 chairs. Although Covid-19 is still present this summer, there are no longer any restrictions imposed by the authorities.
Nevertheless, the organizers want visitors to feel comfortable when, every evening from August 4th to 28th, amusing, challenging or action-packed films are shown on a brand-new big screen. Although they have increased the space available, with 400 tickets being awarded per evening, they have not exhausted it.
Because a few more chairs are available and the rows are spaced out, Klaus Kupke (City of Reutlingen) and Andreas Vogt (cooperation partner »Kamino«) expect that the search for a seat can be »comfortable and relaxed« even without a reservation.
In general, the open-air cinema makers would like to see a little “more encounters”: that the visitors stand together and chat over wine, beer or soda from the “Kamino” bar, enjoy sweet or salty crêpes or – also from the crêpes stand – one sipping cocktails.
Of course, the focus is still on the films, including blockbusters like the youngest James Bond, award-winning strips like »West Side Story« (Golden Globe, 2021), but also art house hits like »Contra« or a preview like Doris Dörrie’s latest comedy »Freibad «.
Because it should be dark when the film starts, but the screening should end before the last buses leave, the starting times are staggered. Until Sunday, August 14th, at 9:15 p.m. it’s time to start filming, and the Spitalhof opens “around 8 p.m.,” as Andreas Vogt puts it somewhat vaguely – depending on the crowds.
Advance ticket sales are once again exclusively via the cooperation partner »Kamino« (see info box). Today, GEA is presenting the films from the first one and a half open-air cinema weeks, and the respective trailers are available online at www.gea.de.
