Portugal replaces Qatar. In 2023, the MotoGP season will start with a European Grand Prix, instead of the one in Qatar, for the first time since 2006. The event will take place from March 24 to 26, 2023.

The Qatar GP has traditionally opened the season since 2007, with a night race from the following year, but the Lusail circuit will be under construction early next year.
The Qatar Grand Prix should therefore be held later in the 2023 season. Lusail has also hosted a Formula 1 Grand Prix since 2021.

The FIM has indicated that the Algarve circuit in Portimao will also hold a winter test session the week before the Grand Prix. This track has hosted MotoGP since 2020 and the last two editions have been won by Frenchman Fabio Quartararo, reigning world champion.
The final calendar for the entire 2023 MotoGP season will be announced later, the FIM said.
