The closing of the 18th Singing Week Sacred Vocal Music in Finistère was held on Friday evening July 29 at the church of Saint-Thégonnec-Loc-Eguiner.
Since Saturday July 23, the “2022 vintage” has brought together 80 choristers at the Saint-Jacques missionary center in Guiclan. The trainees, a quarter of whom were from Finistère, came from various regions of France (27 departments) but also from Belgium, Switzerland and the United Kingdom.
Seven hours of daily rehearsal
They worked for six days on the musical program of composer Jacques Arcadelt, with six to seven hours of daily rehearsals and vocal work (warming up, deciphering, setting up the works). They were placed under the direction of the choir director and trainer Christophe Duhamel, who has a solid musical training acquired at the Conservatoire during the 1980s.
It was in 2002 that Chœur et création made its first appearance at the church when the renovation work, following the fire, was not finished. In 2014, she was included in the Enclos en musique program.
On Friday, the public was able to see the work done throughout this week by choristers who did not even know each other. This musical restitution was majestic. The audience was not mistaken and gave this short-lived choir a standing ovation.
Next year, Christophe Duhamel will return with new singers who will work on a work by another musician.
