Arsenal have been told they need to sign a holding midfielder before the end of the transfer window.
Mikel Arteta has really been backed by the board in this transfer window and added players to the squad who have already made an instant impact on the squad.
Gabriel Jesus has been excellent in pre-season and is scoring goals for fun: Fabio Vieira has been hampered by injury but has looked impressive in his playing minutes, and Oleksander Zonchenko is a brilliant addition to the team.
But Arteta knows he will have to keep adding to his squad over the course of the coming weeks as he now wants to add signings to the side that will challenge the club’s regular starters.
Now, Mikel Arteta has been told the club needs to dig into that transfer kitten and bring a holding midfielder to the club.
Asked at which positions he thought the Gunners still need to get stronger before the window closes, Frank McAvennie told Football Insider: “I think they’ve brought in some decent players.
“I think [Gabriel] Jesus and Oleksandr Zinchenko are two good players. I’m really not very convinced who they have in midfield. [Thomas] Partey has not been launched.
“In terms of full-backs, he could be talking about getting coverage for [Kieran] Tierney.“
The club have confirmed the signings of Gabriel Jesus and Oleksandr Zinchenko from Man City.

Arsenal have done a wonderful business and next season should be exciting, but if Arteta can add a little more quality to that team, he will be very happy with the team he has.
There is plenty of time left in the transfer window for Arsenal to sign a couple of players, so it will be interesting to see who else arrives at the club.
