Due to a failure at train traffic control in the Rotterdam region, there were hardly any trains running for hours in part of the southern Randstad last evening. Just after midnight, the Dutch Railways reported that the malfunction had been resolved. Due to the problems, the traffic controllers could not see where the trains were.

The problems arose in the middle of the evening and were mainly concentrated around Rotterdam, but trains could also be canceled elsewhere in the country. According to rail manager ProRail, the failure led to an unsafe situation and it was therefore decided to stop train traffic.

Because not all trains can be started anymore, the NS advises travelers to keep an eye on the journey planner.
