To calculate how much it costs to keep the air conditioner on all day, you absolutely need to know these three variables:
- Energy rating of the air conditioner. The higher the class (therefore efficient and performing), the less electricity will be absorbed. The most performing air conditioners that consume less are the most advanced, class A +++. Gradually, class A ++, A +, A, B, C and D appliances consume more and more;
- Nominal power which corresponds to the consumption of the single unit when the air conditioner operates at maximum power;
- inverter technology: when present, it allows the air conditioner to switch on and off while maintaining the desired temperature constant.
Air conditioning: check the label to find out the important data
The energy label mandatory in the European Union for devices marketed since 2013 contain all data needed to calculate consumption and coststhat is to say:
- Identification data of the air conditioner (manufacturer’s brand, model name);
- Types of energy efficiency class expressed by some letters of the alphabet;
- Nominal power expressed in kW;
- EER index (nominal energy efficiency in cooling);
- Noise emitted and expressed in decibels;
- Consumption in 60 minutes of operation in kWh according to the desired mode.
Air conditioners: energy consumption and tariffs
To calculate how much it costs to keep the air conditioner on all day, you will have to multiply the cost of one hour by the various hours of use.
Il cost of one hour of consumption it depends on average unit energy cost which varies according to the rate applied and the types of contract with the chosen operator.
Currently, the cost of electricity up to 6 kW is 0.35 euro/kWh. An hour of air conditioning with a consumption of 1 KWh costs 35 cents to which network services, VAT and taxes must be added.
In summary, the energy cost can go up to 40-50% and it could come to cost 50-70 cents an hour. Finding out how much it costs per hour you can multiply by the hours of daily use of the air conditioner.
