After its absolute victory and in the ORC2 category in 2021, the Teatro del Soho CaixaBank returns to the emblematic Copa del Rey Mapfre regatta with a boat similar to the one that gave them victory last year (a Swan42 that will compete in the ORC2 class) and willing to revalidate the coveted sports title.
The team led by Javier Banderas has in its sails and in this 40th edition of the Copa del Rey de Vela the show Godspell, the musical chosen to open the next season of the Teatro del Soho CaixaBank. Originally conceived and directed by John-Michael Tebelak, with music and new lyrics by Stephen Schwartz, this show will return to the stage this fall almost 50 years later under the direction of Emilio Aragón.
The acclaimed Broadway musical from the 1970s, nominated for the Tony Awards, is scheduled to have its grand premiere in November 2022 in Malaga by Antonio Banderas and Emilio Aragón, in a co-production by Teatro del Soho CaixaBank and Estudio Caribe. Ticket prices range between 20 and 64 euros and are now available on the website https://teatrodelsoho.com/ and at all El Corte Inglés outlets.
For Javier Banderas, this edition of the Copa del Rey de sailing will be very special and if the same regatta celebrates its 40th anniversary, the sailor from Malaga will celebrate his 25th anniversary of participation in it.
The Teatro del Soho CaixaBank will hoist sails on Monday, August 1 in Palma de Mallorca with the start of the first 6 official tests of the Preliminary Series, to continue with a Final Series of 5 regattas, which will take place between August 3 and 6. .
Banderas’s team already knows victory in the most emblematic regatta in the Mediterranean and the fact is that the man from Malaga -with the exception of 2012- has not stepped off the podium since 2009, becoming one of the most successful shipowners in the Copa del Rey regatta with five victories (2021, 2018, 2017, 2010, 2009) in its category, two absolute victories (2017 and 2021), three second places (2019, 2014, 2013) and three third places (2016, 2015, 2011).
Teatro del Soho CaixaBank has the support, once again, of Antonio Banderas Design, Puerto Deportivo de Benalmádena and the Isla de Malloca hotel.
