Critical care physician and lung disease specialist, Dr Mike Hansen, recently shared how sore throat symptoms of Omicron BA.5. According to him, these symptoms are very torturing for him, in fact it hurts very much every time he swallows saliva.
“It’s very painful,” said Dr Hansen, quoted from Express UK, Friday (29/7/2022).
“Although my sore throat really doesn’t bother me when I’m about to drink liquids or swallow food, but whenever I have saliva in the back of my throat and about to swallow, it’s very painful,” explains Dr Hansen.
Apart from a sore throat, Dr Hansen also experienced other symptoms, such as fatigue, fever, runny nose and cough.
“The worst part is the first three to four days,” he explained.
According to data from the ZOE Health Study app, sore throat is a common symptom of COVID-19. This condition can be experienced by all age groups, both children and adults. These symptoms are also experienced on average by those who have been vaccinated with two or even three doses.
Sore throat symptoms generally last for five days. On the first day, a sore throat will indeed hurt. But in the next few days, the sore throat that is felt will get better.
“On average, a sore throat can last five days. If your sore throat lasts longer than this, it’s unlikely to be COVID-19,” the ZOE team said.
How to Relieve Sore Throat Symptoms of Omicron BA.5

1. Salt water
Although it doesn’t give an instant effect, salt water is claimed to be an effective drug to kill bacteria to reduce pain in the throat. The trick, simply mix half a teaspoon of salt with warm water, then gargle with the water.
2. Honey
Honey is known as a sore throat remedy because it has natural antibacterial properties that can heal sores in the throat. In fact, it can relieve pain due to inflammation in the throat.

The trick, simply mix two tablespoons of honey with a glass of warm water or tea, then mix well. Can be consumed several times a day as needed.
3. Lemon
In addition to salt water and honey, lemon is also very good for relieving a sore throat. The reason is, lemons contain vitamin C which can boost the immune system to fight infections or sore throats.
The trick, mix a teaspoon of lemon juice into a glass of warm water and drink immediately.
4. Spicy Sauce
It may sound strange why you can use hot sauce to relieve a sore throat. However, this ingredient has been shown to relieve sore throats.
Sauces made from paprika or chili are known to contain capsaicin which can be used to fight inflammation and relieve pain in the throat.

5. Teh

“When you’re recovering from an illness, it’s important to rest. If you’re getting ready for bed, it’s probably best to drink decaffeinated tea,” says Dr. Smith.
