At least seven people died in United Arab Emirates after rain torrents that don’t match the season trigger flood banding in the usually dry eastern district of the Gulf state.
“It is with regret that we announce that six people of Asian nationality have been found dead in the flood,” said Ali al-Tunaiji, head of the Interior Ministry’s operations center.
Shortly after, he announced the death of a 7th Asian migrant.

Not only the victims died, local emergency services said they had answered hundreds of calls asking for help over the past two days or when floods inundated the streets of the port city of Fujairah and other eastern districts.
When it rains, temperatures in the UAE actually hit 40 degrees Celsius (104 degrees Fahrenheit) this July. But maybe that’s the problem.
The reason is, when heavy rain falls on the sun-burned earth, that’s where the threat of flash floods lurks.
