The DRK is dependent on blood donations
Monheim The next appointment is on Thursday in the Pastor Franz Boehm House. Chronically ill and cancer patients in particular require a continuous supply of blood preparations.
In the coming week, the German Red Cross (DRK) in Monheim will again be offering the opportunity to donate blood. The appointment is on Thursday, August 4, from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the Pfarrer-Franz-Boehm-Haus, Sperberstraße 2a. Blood donations are particularly important in summer, which is why every donation counts, the DRK reports.

Chronically ill and cancer patients in particular are dependent on a continuous supply of blood preparations. Many of them needed thrombocytes (blood platelets) from blood donations, but these have a shelf life of only four days. The hospitals could therefore not stock up. The Red Cross is therefore asking people to donate blood in the summer as well. Even when the outside temperature is high, blood donation is well tolerated. However, the DRK recommends making sure that you drink enough liquid before and after donating blood.

The DRK blood donation service asks you to reserve an appointment in advance at www.blutspende.jetzt. This means that anyone can donate blood without waiting and under the highest possible safety and hygiene standards. There is no longer a 3G regulation on blood donation appointments. However, the obligation to wear medical mouth and nose protection (at least a surgical mask) still exists.

After a corona vaccination, no deferral of the blood donation is required. If there are no vaccination reactions such as fever or nausea, vaccinated people can donate blood again the following day. The donated blood is not tested for SARS-CoV-2 because, according to current scientific knowledge, the virus cannot be transmitted as part of a blood transfusion. The Red Cross reports that there is no danger for patients and transfusion recipients.
